Perimeters

Students were given the problem of drawing 2D shapes with a perimeter of 24cm.
Think about it...There are oodles of possibilities...
The discussions were flowing and enthusiasm raised.

Another group were working on the circumference of a circle.
Word problems and formulas were stimulating the students to think beyond...

The students also thought about the perimeter of the field. The discussion then moved to how many times we could walk it to walk a kilometre or even 10 km...

Very interesting...ask them!

Researching information for PBL Project

The students spent a substantial amount of time today researching the era they were assigned. They need to select significant events, places or people that have contributed to Australia.
The discussion that followed was rather important. Students may need to discuss with parents the ideas that they have of "significant" and "iconic".

The students are working really well. The discussions are really worth listening in to. I am so proud of the students as they investigate Australia's past.

Looking at the Mould through a Microscope.

During the Science lesson in the Secondary laboratory, the students in Year Six studied the mould that has been growing on their bread.

The students recorded their observations.

Students also completed some individual research about MOULD. They then recorded their thinking via a THINKING routine???
I used to think...
But now I think...

The thinking goes on...
I see I think I wonder?
Will be the next THINKING routine as we study FUNGUS...

Year 6 Students start a PBL

The Year Six students were assigned their groups and eras to research today. They were also told about the projects.

Spirits are high just like 'True Aussies'.

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie...Who are You?

Maths Groups

We had a very eventful and productive maths lesson today.
The students are studying length.
One of the aspects of length is learning how to convert the units of length. For this we suggest the ladder.
We worked on some examples of conversion and then we decided to measure leaves...yes gum leaves.
We converted them into mm, cm, m and km. Yes really!

After that the students measured their heights and wrote them in cm and m.

Is there a correlation between your outstretched hands and your height?

The classroom was buzzing.

Please enjoy.
